Dream Recorder is a portal to your subconscious. Envisioned and developed by Modem, the magical bedside device catches your nightly visions and plays them back as ultra-low definition, cinematic reels. Wake up, speak your dream aloud, and watch it come to life as a dreamscape in the aesthetic of your choice.
Dreaming is a universal human experience. Dream Recorder starts from this shared condition and translates the user’s subconscious into ultra-low-definition, impressionistic dreamscapes. After a dream is spoken aloud in the preferred language, the system transforms it into a short-form cinematic reel, rendered in a preselected aesthetic. The low-resolution output is deliberate, mirroring the way dreams are remembered as incomplete and atmospheric, driven by mood rather than narrative clarity.
Dream Recorder is open source by design. Inspired by DIY culture, the project requires users to build the device themselves. All components are openly available, including the software, hardware documentation, and a 3D-printable glow-in-the-dark shell. Build yours today.
