For the fourth edition of the Rimowa Design Prize at Berlin's Kulturforum, Modem designed The Workshop — a scenography conceived as a space in progress, where the exhibition itself becomes a physical expression of the design process: deliberate, unresolved, and open to be explored.
The Workshop draws its formal language from creative workplaces: ateliers, studios, production floors. Trolleys, tables, and mobile storage units became the structural vocabulary, each paired with elevated and unexpected materials that introduced a deliberate friction between the utilitarian and the refined — raw and finished, familiar and unexpected, held in the same frame.
The fixtures formed a modular, adaptable framework across the full footprint of the ceremony, from the entrance installation and student exhibition through to the stage and bar areas. Screens and signage were integrated into the fixture architecture itself, allowing technology to read as part of the spatial system. The battery-powered design meant the exhibition could be reconfigured mid-event — shifting from the student exhibition to the awards ceremony without interruption.
